Broccoli Grape Salad Recipe:
We originally shared this broccoli grape salad in 2015. It is a recipe from my Mother-in-law. We added crisp bacon and toasted pine nuts and a great salad got even better!
We love serving this as a side salad for dinner, paired with Mashed Potatoes and Pork Tenderloin, but it’s also a really satisfying and filling lunch when served as a main course.
Ingredients for Broccoli Grape and Cucumber Salad:
The flavor and texture combination of this broccoli grape salad is very exciting with sweet grapes, salty bacon, toasted pine nuts, and tangy dressing. It’s hard to stop eating it!
The ingredients are simple and you can swap several things out depending on what you have on hand:
- Fresh Broccoli (or sweeter broccolini)
- Cucumber
- Seedless Grapes (red or green), or use raisins
- Red onion (or sweet yellow onion)
- Toasted pine nuts (or sunflower, or pumpkin seeds)
- Browned bacon
Is Broccoli Salad Healthy?
Broccoli is one of the healthiest green veggies. Broccoli is a low calorie, low carb vegetable (only 3.5 carbs per cup). It also has many health benefits and important nutrients:
- Rich in Vitamins K, Vitamin C and Vitamin A
- Great source of Vitamin B6 and Manganese
- High in fiber and folate
Can I Substitute the Mayo?
The dressing is really simple and good and the freshly squeezed lemon juice really lightens it up. If you aren’t a fan of mayonnaise, you can substitute it with equal parts of sour cream and mayo, or just use all sour cream. If using sour cream, you might add a teensy bit more sugar to taste since sour cream is tangier than mayonnaise.
How to Make Broccoli Grape Salad:
- Brown the bacon and toast pine nuts.
- In a mixing bowl, combine all prepared salad ingredients.
- Stir together broccoli salad dressing until smooth
- Mix the dressing into the salad and serve cold.
Can this Broccoli Salad be Made Ahead?
To save time, you can make this ahead. Chop up all of the salad ingredients and arrange them in a bowl. In a separate container, stir together creamy broccoli salad dressing. Stir the dressing into the salad just before serving.
What to Bring to a Potluck:
Here are more potluck recipes that always get great reviews. Many of these can be made ahead!
- Egg Salad Recipe – the easiest salad
- Avocado Corn Salad – one look and you’ll know
- Chicken Potato Salad – aka Olivier
- Deviled Eggs – these fly off the plate
- Strawberry Pretzel Salad – most requested dessert!

Question: Out of lemons, what would be the best vinegar to replace lemon juice with?
Thank you
Hi Stella! I think it could work, but I haven’t tested it. You can experiment with it and add it to taste.
I use wine vinegar, usually red wine vinegar, but white wine vinegar will work well, too. Enjoy!
I was hoping to make this salad for a Christmas party, how do you think dried cranberries would go as a substitute to grapes to make it more Christmasy?
Hi Juliya! I think the cranberries would go great! 🙂
Just wondering if I should be using sugar or not? I think you didn’t mention it in the video but in the dressing ingredients there’s a tablespoon?
Hi Gina! Yes, we used 1 Tbsp in the dressing! I hope this helps!
Do you offer a cookbook? Love you and your recipe’s! 🥰
Hi JoAnna, not at the moment but I am already working on it. Stay tuned!
Quick, easy, VERY delicious. A winner for sure in my books! Made à double batch last weekend, my family polished it off in one sitting, and I’m making it again this weekend. Just too good!!
That’s just awesome! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review, H!
Delicious!!! I’m gonna make that dressing and keep it in a jar too! yum!!!
Sounds good and happy to hear that you enjoyed this recipe!
I’ve made this salad several times now and it’s my go to for carry in get-togethers. I always get some thin sliced chicken breast, fry them in a little olive oil and seasonings and add to salad. Makes a great meal.
That’s so great, Butch! I’m happy to hear you enjoyed this salad!
Oh Thank You So Much for thinking of me, the Mayophobe! This looks really delicious, but I’m going to use Hidden Valley Ranch dressing with the added lemon and pepper!
I hope you love this recipe, David! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Natasha, love your videos and your recipes. I’ve just made this salad and it’s delicious. I have tried several of your recipes and loved them all and so does my husband.

I’m so happy you enjoyed this recipe, Angie! Thank you for that wonderful review!
Just made this tonight for the two of us, and again zero left in the bowl. The bacon is just perfect in this recipe, we used toasted sunflower seeds as that was what we had. Amazing recipe, we loved this salad. Going to be a regular! Thanks.
Perfect! Thank you so much, Lisa. We appreciate your good feedback.
Made the recipe exactly as written and it was very good, but would alter next time. Would definitely leave out the bacon which seemed like it should work but did not for us. Love toasted pine nuts but again didn’t seem to be right for this. Pumpkin seeds next time or maybe pecans. Dressing is great!
Hello Carol, thanks for your comments, feedback, and some tips. We appreciate that you shared it with us!
Just amazing. The whole Family loved it

Is the broccoli cooked?
Hi Kate, it is not cooked, however several of our readers reported blanching the broccoli for this recipe!
This broccoli salad was so delicious. I certainly will make this broccoli salad again. It taste so refreshing with the grapes cucumbers and the broccoli.
That is so wonderful to hear, Joanne! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
Hi Natasha, I made this broccoli apple salad for a picnic past weekend, it was a big hit everybody love It, it so creamy and flavorful. Thanks for the recipe.
You’re so welcome! I am glad everyone enjoyed it.
My pine nuts were not fresh, so I subbed in walnuts, otherwise made the recipe as is. It was delicious!
I’m so glad you enjoyed that Eileen!
Very good. I am doing the keto diet, so I just changed the sugar to monk fruit. Worked perfectly. Great salad. Absolutely would make it again. Love the pine nuts. FYI. Love your personality and recipes. Pls keep it up.
Thank you so much for that awesome review, Nathalie!
Made this today for my family and we all LOVED it! My husband doesn’t like broccoli but he absolutely loved this salad! I will have to make more tomorrow! Thank you Natasha for such a wonderful and easy recipe!

This broccoli grape salad is the best ever! I made it tonight to take to a friend’s house and it hit the spot. I will be making this many more times.
That’s just awesome!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful review!
Hi Natasha… I have a family member who I doesn’t eat raw onion. Could I grate onion and add it to the dressing to get the flavor? Any other ideas? Thanks – love your recipes!
Hi Stacy! That may overpower the dressing. You could try it, but it would be fine to leave them out completely as well.
I might be totally blind (usually the case) where is the cooking course sign up?
Hi Darla, thank you for asking. We have a free email course here.
I made this for a recent holiday gathering and it received rave reviews! I did not cook the broccoli before assembling the salad and it was just right for us.
Sounds like you found a new party favorite! Thank you so much for sharing that with me, Sue!
Made this for thanksgiving. I skipped the nuts and boiled the broccoli for a few minutes. It was fantastic. The dressing was perfect.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Bex! Thank you for the wonderful review!
Just made this salad as an accompaniment to dinner. This is really good! No additions or deletions made. Thanks Natasha! Another great recipe.
You’re welcome, Shelley! I’m so glad you enjoyed that.
This salad is absolutely delicious and flavorful! Sweet, salt, and tangy all in one bowl.
I’m so glad you enjoyed that, Katelyn.
Hi there! I made this salad two days in a row, we like it so much!
But the second time around I made a few changes:
I subbed the pine nuts with toasted almond slivers and omitted the acon and the cucumbers, because I forgot to buy them.
I made the balsamic dressing from your Autumn Chopped Chicken Salad and added two tablespoons of mayo. This really took the salad to the next level and I liked it even better!
Thanks for your amazing recipes!
I’m so happy you enjoyed that. Thank you for sharing that with us!
I adore broccoli and everything else in this salad. My hunny refuses to eat raw broccoli 🙁 I made a simple change, I blanched the broccoli florets literally for like 30 seconds, cooled it down etc and added it to the bowl. It just takes the “raw” out of the broccoli. I waited to cut up the broccoli in small pieces until after I blanched it to avoid overcooking it. Well the verdict, he loved it and wants it as a side on Sunday for the football game with some ribs! Yay, thank you as always. We need our boys to have some kind of veggie’s on Sundays and potato chips don’t count! I’m going to double the recipe too, these boys can eat.
I’m so happy you all loved the recipe! That is wonderful. That is a great tip to blanch the broccoli. Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love this salad! I just found this recipe a week ago and just made my second batch. I’ve been eating it everyday for lunch. My family and I love your recipes. We use so many of them in our regular dinner rotations. We’ve yet to try a recipe of yours that we didn’t love! Thanks for sharing them!
I’m so happy to hear that, Samantha! Thank you for sharing your great review!
I hate to be the only one here that didn’t like the recipe. I made it EXACTLY like you posted. My hubby looked at me and said “you had to have missed something, we love all of Natasha’s recipes,” after that he threw it in the sink.. 🙁
Hi Vicky, I’m so sorry. That’s 100% my fault. I’m kicking myself right now. I went and made the dressing just now after reading your comment because I remembered it tasting so good and sure enough, I forgot an ingredient. I updated the recipe but dang I’m so sorry I ruined dinner. 🙁
Yes, I used fresh lemons, everything was exactly like the recipe shows.
That was totally my fault. I’m so sorry Vicky. You replied before I edited my comment. I completely missed an ingredient in my notes and posted it wrong. Thank you for your honest review and for pointing that out to me. I feel so bad..
i love your recipes and your videos
greetings from Belgium!
Wilma
I’m so happy to hear that! Thank you for sharing your great feedback!
, this recipe has alot (809 mg) of sodium, 19 mg of fat and, and 14mg of carbs , ( not to bad)
where is that much sodium come from, I know bacon has salt but ???
Hi Joyce, it’s mostly the bacon. Without the bacon, it goes to about 242 mg of sodium, so if you were cutting down on sodium, I would suggest removing the bacon and it will still taste great.
Great recipe! I made this last weekend for a family gathering. Everyone loved it! Thank you
I’m so glad you all enjoyed it! Thank you for the wonderful review!
What a light and perfectly crunchy salad! Looking forward to making this with dinner tonight, indeed!
Hi Sara, I hope you love it! We look forward to your feedback!

Can you help me please? You are using cups in this and the other recipes. Can you tell me how many ml or g I have to use? Or how many ml are 1 cup?
Thanks Wiete
Wiete, one cup = 236 ml. Thank you for visiting the site 😀
Such a yummy salad!
Didn’t think it would be good with grapes but when we tried it everyone definitely loved it! Another 5 star salad!
Tatyana, thank you for another great review! I’m all smiles 😬

Can you sub Greek yogurt for the mayo?
I haven’t tried that substitution but one of my readers writes: “I made it with plain greek yogurt in place of the mayo and it worked great! I didn’t change the amount of lemon juice — kept the same amount and it wasn’t too tangy. Delicious!”
Dear Natasha!
Being inspired by this recipe I created my own variation of it: with black (“caviar”)lentils and Ananas plus olive oil for the Dressing; no onions and sunfl.seeds though.
It is really delicious!
I like your website very much for the positive attitude!
congratulations on your baby born as well!
Cheers

Thank you so much for sharing your creative modifications! I’m so glad you are enjoying this recipe 🙂
Made this yesterday..this was my first real salad making..super easy since this doesn’t need special equipment like the salad spinner..used lime instead of lemon since i didn’t have any, and used salted sunflower seed since i didn’t have unsalted and just reduced the salt in the mayo mix. thank you so much.
I’m so happy you liked it! thanks Joice 🙂
me encantaron las recetas, muchas gracias por compartirlas
You are welcome Jessica, I hope that you’ll find many favorites on the site :).
Just made this for my New Year’s Eve celebration — it’s so good! My grocery store was out of sunflower seeds so I used silvered almonds instead. Love this salad — will definitely make again!
Thank you for the great review Lindsey, I’m glad you enjoyed it :).
I made this salad to share at my work. We had a going away party/baby shower and it was a hit at our party! Thanks for the great recipe! It will definitely be part of our favorite side dishes to share at our parties and get togethers!
I’m so happy you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for a great review!
I just had to come back to this website to write how amazing this salad was. I have a hard time working fruits and vegetables into my husband’s work lunches, and this is an easy and delicious way to do it.
This recipe is definitely a keeper – it’s my new favorite salad ever. Thank you so much!
I’m so happy you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for the great review 🙂 Have an awesome day Fala 🙂
Could I use plain Greek yogurt instead of the mayo?
To be honest, I haven’t tried it in place of the mayo. I like subbing sour cream with greek yogurt, but haven’t experimented with subbing mayo. It would probably have more of a tang to it so I’d ease up on the lemon juice.
this is also what i was wondering; i am not a fan of mayo, unless it’s mixed with something that masks it’s taste! but….having said that, i may try it once….
I just made this salad today and it was amazing! Yeah, I couldn’t help but add bacon in it though! 😀
Yum! That addition sounds wonderful! 🙂
I made it with plain greek yogurt in place of the mayo and it worked great! I didn’t change the amount of lemon juice — kept the same amount and it wasn’t too tangy. Delicious!
Thank you so much for sharing your healthy modification! 🙂
I made this tonight and my daughter said “Grapes? In a salad?” 😉 The grapes totally make this salad….and she agrees! Thank you for this easy, yummy recipe.
I’m so happy you and your daughter enjoyed it. It’s one of our family’s absolute favorite salads! 🙂
Thank you for sharing this receipe. I made it today and really enjoyed it. Great salad
I’m so glad you liked it 🙂 Thanks so much for the great feedback!
Has anyone made this the day before? I’m thinking of having the salad all mixed and the dressing prepared the day before but waiting to mix it until I’m ready to serve.
I have made it the day before. It holds up really well in the fridge even after the dressing is mixed in. It has a little less lemon tang to it the next day, but it still tastes amazing. It actually stayed good in the fridge for three days.
I’m wondering if Greek yogurt would be okay to replace the mayonnaise with….
To be honest, I haven’t tried it in place of the mayo. I like subbing sour cream with greek yogurt, but haven’t experimented with subbing mayo. It would probably have more of a tang to it so I’d ease up on the lemon juice.
One of my favorites! Except, I put dried cranberries and toasted almond slivers, and for the dressing, mayo with salt, vinegar and sugar. Sweet, salty and tangy all in one 🙂
Oooh craisins… yum! I add those to my broccoli apple salad and it is seriously delicious! I like the almond slivers idea, but I was hopeful my son would eat this (he won’t eat almonds). Turns out he only likes cooked broccoli. oh dear, more for me and the Mr. 😉
I made this salad last week and it was so good! Except I forgot to use sunflower seeds. Do they make a big difference? Thinking of serving this today on Thanksgiving.
Sunflower seeds do add additional flavor but you can still serve salad without them :).
Made this salad today, loved it ALOT!!! i did not chop brocoli, just used bigger pieces… Thank you Natasha 4 a great recipe…Yum yum
Hi Marina! Thank you for letting me know. So glad you loved it 🙂 You’re very welcome!
Yes Veronica, this is that salad…. Some put raisins in it… I have never tried with cheddar in it… But sounds very good!!
Oh yes this salad is definitely worth trying… Its a new dish here in Cali… Many substitute dried cranberries for grapes, but i personally love it with grapes. Also, you could try putting pieces of bacon. Many here in Cali do so. Fry pieces of bacon, drain excess oil and mix with the rest of ingridients. I love it…. my favorite salad.
This and Ilona’s comments reminds me of a salad I love with brocolli, raisins, onion, bacon and sunflower seeds but there is also cheddar in it. So good! I know I would love this and it’s pretty healthy too. I will have to make some!
made the salad, then after i posted my comment i read ur comment, so i went ahead and added some bacon in it 🙂 lv it!
I will add bacon next time, just bought some :).
I am seriously addicted to this salad and it is so easy to make.
That’s awesome! Diane, I’m so happy you love it 🙂
