Brazilian Lemonade (Limeade)

One of my readers suggested I try Brazilian lemonade so I did and loved it! Then I spent several days making it kid-friendly, with no chance of bitterness, and giving it a longer life expectancy.

This is my version of Brazilian Limeade. I made it for our family pool party over the weekend and it was a hit! You’ll be surprised by the list of ingredients. It’s so crisp, refreshing and and has a unique flavor. It’s a really exciting summer party drink and it’s fun to watch people try it for the first time.

It goes something like this: look of intrigue followed by “mmm that’s really good!” It’s smooth and has a fun frothy layer that reminds me of the fancy drinks we had on our honeymoon in Mexico.

Tips for success:

Select fresh limes with thin, smooth skins as they are the juiciest. Many people leave on the skins, cut the limes in 1/8ths and toss them directly into the blender, but my way of making it prevent the chances of getting a bitter drink. We figured it’s better to take the extra 3 minutes to juice ’em.

Ingredients for Brazilian Lemonade:

7 cups cold water
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup fresh lime juice (from 5 limes)
1 Tbsp lime zest (from 1 of the limes)
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk Ice to serve

Have you tried Brazilian Lemonade? It's refreshing and smooth. You'll be surprised by the list of ingredients! | natashaskitchen.com

What you’ll need:

(1) A blender,

(2) a pretty pitcher (I love the “100% Soda Lime Glass Pitcher” that I purchased from our local JCPenney)

(3) serving glasses. Have you explored the JCPenney home collection? They have loads of great summer entertaining gear.

How to Make Brazilian Limeade (Lemonade):

1. Stir together 7 cups cold water with 3/4 cup sugar and set aside

2. Add 1 Tbsp lime zest and juice from 5 limes into your blender jar (it’s super fast to juice limes if you have a citrus squeezer like this one). Pour 3 cups of your sugar water into the blender (I only add 3 cups at this time so my blender doesn’t splash all over the place)

Brazilian Lemonade-10

3. Add 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk. Blend until smooth and frothy. Stir in remaining sugar water and serve over ice

Hello! Thank you for the recipe!

A question… Can lime juice from a bottle work just as good?

Also, can I simply stir instead of blend?

    Thank you in advance!

Hi! I would not recommend using lime juice concentrate for this recipe. The blending is what helps it incorporate well and makes it smooth and frothy.

Super delicious! I am twelve years old, and I made it for study time during exam week, and it was gone really quickly! I added 2 more limes than the recipe said to and it was awesome!

Tyra, I know I’m taking a chance on this but did you leave the condensed milk out of the recipe, or just add the seltzer water to it? I don’t like the taste of condensed milk either but this drink sounds so good.

Do you have any issue with the milk curdling from the acidity of the limes? I’ve read that this can happen after awhile so I’m wondering how well it would hold up if a big batch was made & left in the fridge.

The recipe is very similar to how we do it, but I have never, in my whole life, heard anybody call it “limeade”. I’m not sure where you got that from but it just sounds like a made up word. We just call it “limonada” which is the word in portuguese for lemonade so…
Sorry if this sounds rude, it’s not meant to, but I can’t stop laughing at how dorky that word sounds

It’s a translation issue. The word Limeade is used as the drink is made with Limes and not Lemons. In english it’s either Lime or Lemon in central and south america its Lima or Limon which lends to the same word of Limonada no matter which you use. Hope this makes sense.

Hi Debbi, you won’t get the same flavor and it would just be a lemonade sweetened with condensed milk. I’m not sure how lemon rind would taste though in the lemonade (or if that bitterness would be pleasant or not). I haven’t tested this exact recipe with lemons so I’m not sure.

Hi Raquel, I’m from Brazil too and I understand the reason why they named it Limeade. It’s because it’s made with limes and not lemons. In Brazil we tend to call lima (limão), mas não é o correto.

Oh summer, there’s so much to do but so little time. I must say camping always been one of our favorite thing about summer, those long-warm-summer nights by campfire and munching on those toasty smores.. Mmmmmm…
